The Leatherstocking Telecommunications Consortium was established in 1994 to meet a need for coordination identified by the Southern Tier East Regional Planning Development Board. The Appalachian Regional Commission funded projects with Schopeg Access, Inc and SUNY Oneonta aimed at improving telecommunications services in Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie counties. Representation includes the health, education, government and business sectors. With the start of an Advanced Telecommunication Project award from Verizon, the Consortium has been expanded to include Albany, Schenectady, Greene, Montgomery, Herkimer, and Oneida counties.
Advanced Telecommunication Project
The Advanced Telecommunication Project will provide ATM service to seventy-six sites including hospitals and clinics, schools and colleges, county governments and business development enterprises. Details on the project goals may be found in the proposal . (The project was expanded at the request of the funding review committee.) Project contacts are shown in the contacts list.
